VHF/UHF Admittance Tunnel (50 MHz – 1.5 GHz)

The MWI VHF/UHF Admittance Tunnel is a specialized, large-format enclosure engineered for deep-penetration Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE). At these lower frequencies, electromagnetic wavelengths range from 200mm to 6 meters, necessitating a massive physical footprint to maintain a controlled measurement environment. This system is purpose-built to extract accurate complex permittivity and permeability data from thick, structural materials that higher frequencies cannot penetrate.

Wavelength-Driven Engineering

  • Aperture Scale: Features an extra-large iris designed to accommodate the expansive beam waists of our GBA-005-1s and related low-frequency array antennas.
  • Absorber Integration: Utilizing thick-stack, high-performance absorbers to effectively damp long-wave energy and eliminate internal resonance.
  • Net Table Support: Includes a wide-format, high-tension Net Table capable of suspending large-area aerospace or civil panels “in space” without interacting with the VHF/UHF field.

Primary Utility

Ideal for characterizing structural airframe components, heavy-duty composites, and civil infrastructure materials where “skin depth” penetration is critical for detecting subsurface flaws or measuring bulk material properties.
